La Salle guns for eighth straight win; UST seeks to bolster semis drive

The Green Archers, who already secured a twice-to-beat bonus in the semifinals, tangle with the resurging Far Eastern University Tamaraws at 3:30 p.m., while the Tigers collide with the National University Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m.

Fresh from a commanding 80-65 win over rival Ateneo that hiked their tally to 10-1, La Salle hopes to sustain its momentum and replicate its 68-62 victory over FEU in their first meeting last month.

But the Archers are wary of the Tamaraws, who were victorious in three of their last four games.

De La Salle coach Topex Robinson was glad they had enough time to rest and recover before facing a dangerous team like FEU.

“FEU is doing well. They’re really a well-oiled machine, so we cannot really relax,” said Robinson.

“So for us, we said it's still a long way to go, so we cannot stop working.”

As expected, Robinson is counting on Kevin Quiambao to anchor the crew after posting a career-high 33 points against Ateneo, along with Mike Phillips, Joshua David, EJ Gollena and CJ Austria.

FEU, for its part, seeks a follow up to its 59-51 win over University of the East to improve its 6-5 mark with with Jorick Bautista, Veejay Pre and Royce Alforque at the forefront.

Meanwhile, UST seeks to find its groove to ihike its 5-6 card and bolster its Final Four bid against NU, which is coming off a morale-boosting 67-47 upset win over semifinalist University of the Philippines.

The Tigers are relying on backcourts Forthsky Padrigao, Nic Cabanero and Kyle Paranada against the Bulldogs’ won trio of Jake Figueroa, Jolo Manansala and PJ Palacielo.
