Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo has been awarded by Marriott International, Serve 360, and Marriott APEC World Ocean for being a sustainable partner in the Salbaron ang Industriya sang Kasag (Save the Crab Industry).

The hotel sources its blue crabs from Igbon Island in Concepcion, a town in northern Iloilo province.

With its blue crab suppliers from Igbon, Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo is playing a role in reducing illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing while being a sustainable market partner.

The Responsible Seafood Sourcing Program is part of the  Fish Right Program supported by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of the Department of Agriculture, the Iloilo provincial government, and the crab fishers of Igbon.

Concepcion Mayor Milliard Villanueva lauded the partnership of Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo in the bigger goal of the local government unit to export blue crabs again.

The LGU and partners are seeking to upgrade the blue crab as a yellow-rate product and eventually a green-rate product, the highest rating for export.
