Malate drug sting yields P470K of shabu

A 30-year-old drug dealer was arrested in a buy-bust operation along Roxas Boulevard in Malate, Manila, after he was caught selling illegal drugs to undercover operatives, on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

Police said the suspect, identified only by the alias Leandro, was a resident of Pasay City.

According to the police report, the operation was led by the Malate Police Station's Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) under the command of Lt. Col. Nelson Cortez.

The suspect was apprehended after officers confirmed his involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Confiscated from the suspect’s possession were 70 grams of shabu (methamphetamine), with an estimated worth of P476,000.

The drugs were intended for distribution within the Malate area where the suspect had been operating as a key source of illegal drugs.

Cortez credited the successful operation to intelligence-driven efforts and strong cooperation with the local community.

Information gathered about the illegal drug activities in the area helped in leading officers to Leandro, who was identified as a major supplier to local drug pushers.

Police said previous arrests of drug suspects in Manila had also linked Leandro to the distribution network operating in the vicinity.

Cortez expressed determination to continue identifying those connected to Leandro’s illicit activities and dismantle his network.

The suspect is facing charges for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of the Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

The MPD continues to reinforce its commitment to combating illegal drugs in the city, with ongoing operations to arrest suppliers and dismantle criminal drug networks.
