An owner of a driving school led the mounting of the board to remind drivers to practice safe driving when traversing the area.
“I am an advocate of road safety. In fact, I am a victim of what we call ‘kamote driver.’ I have steel implanted on my face because of an accident that was caused by a kamote driver 10 years ago. The driver didn’t have a driver’s license. This is my second life but the driver died,” said Cyril Velasco.
The board showed that so far this year, two persons died and 152 others were injured in road crashes in the area.
Barangay Captain Yody Sanchez welcomed the mounting of the board in Sitio Maaslom.
Sanchez said the area is considered an accident-prone area because of its blind curves.
He added that those who encountered accidents are not familiar with the place.
Sanchez added that most of the motorcycle riders involved in accidents are those who execute steep banking.
“We appeal to the riders to really observe safe driving when passing through the area because we cannot respond immediately to save them because we lack ambulances,” said Sanchez.
The Highway Patrol Group-Central Visayas (HPG-7) welcomed the installation of the road warning.
Police Major Silvestre Cenia said it is the goal of HPG-7 to reduce road crashes especially on the Transcentral Highway.
Cenia said that from time to time, the HPG-7 will conduct checkpoints in the area to catch overspeeding riders.
