The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday, Nov. 26, confirmed that it has received a disbarment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte on her comment to dig up the body of the late former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and throw it into the West Philippine Sea.
During a press briefing on issues taken up by the SC as a full court, SC Spokesperson lawyer Camille Sue Mae L. Ting was asked if a disbarment complaint has been filed against the Vice President.
Ting replied: “Actually there is a pending case for disbarment against the VP which was filed a few years back when she was still mayor of Davao City.”
“And just this month (November), the SC received an anonymous complaint regarding her (VP) about the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.”
The anonymous complaint must be referring to VP Duterte’s statements
during a press conference where she stated that if political attacks from the current administration continues, she would personally dig up the late former President Marcos’ body and throw it into the West Philippine Sea.
Published reports stated that Duterte issued her remarks when asked if President Bongbong Marcos has forgotten that it was her father, former President Duterte, who allowed the burial of the late Marcos Sr. at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
The reports also quoted VP Duterte’s reply: “Hindi ko alam. Pero isang beses, sinabihan ko talaga si Senator Imee (Marcos). Sabi ko sa kanya, kung hindi kayo tumigil, huhukayin ko ‘yang tatay ninyo, itatapon ko siya sa West Philippines Sea. (I don’t know. But once, I actually told Senator Imee. I told her, if you don’t stop, I will dig up your father, I will throw him into the West Philippines Sea.)”
When asked if the SC has acted on the anonymous complaint, Ting said: “There is no action yet at the moment.”
