Rainy weather expected in Mindanao, parts of Luzon due to ITCZ, ‘amihan’

Two weather systems are expected to bring cloudy and rainy conditions to Mindanao and parts of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

PAGASA said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ)—where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge—may bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to Mindanao.

The ITCZ is also known as the breeding ground for tropical cyclones.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” may bring cold winds and cloudy skies with rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora.

PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rainfall from both weather systems could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in these areas.

Meanwhile, Ilocos Region will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains brought by the amihan.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is advised to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
