Nueva Vizcaya under state of calamity due to ‘Pepito’


BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – This province has been declared under a state of calamity due to extensive damage from super typhoon “Pepito.”

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the declaration sought by Gov. Jose V. Gambito to expedite recovery efforts.

The declaration will also enable the provincial government and the 15 local government units to use their local disaster risk reduction management funds for relief assistance and disaster response measures.

It also mandated a price freeze on all basic and prime commodities under Republic Act No. 7581 or the Price Act for 60 days.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office estimated damage to agriculture at P2.6 billion, P252 million to infrastructure, P9 million to irrigation systems, and over P80 million to school buildings.

Pepito killed seven individuals and injured three others in a landslide in the upland town of Ambaguio.

Meanwhile, the Cagayan PDRRMO reported that damage to agriculture in the province from typhoon “Nika” and Pepito has reached P2.2 billion. More than 71,800 farmers and fishermen were affected.
