PRO-6 steps up security for First Lady following VP Sara threats


ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office-6 vowed to step up security when First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos visits Western Visayas, particularly Iloilo.

“We will add more security,” said PRO-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky on Monday, Nov. 25, following the assassination threats made by Vice President Sara Duterte against President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the First Lady, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

“We take the threats seriously,” added Wanky.

The PRO-6 will closely coordinate with the Presidential Security Command on how to boost security measures for future visits of the First Lady. 

The First Lady usually visits Iloilo.  In 2022, she became a faculty member of the West Visayas State University as she was teaching criminal law at its College of Law.

The First Lady is occasionally here and province of Iloilo for Pag-Ulikid, a social development program in selected low-income barangays.

The First Lady has roots in Iloilo. Her father Manuel Araneta Jr. is from Iloilo City while her mother Milagros Ledesma Cacho has roots from both Iloilo and Negros.
