The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has launched the P93.59 million San Mateo Water Supply System to provide safe and affordable water to upland communities in Norzagaray, Bulacan.
DPWH Undersecretary Roberto R. Bernardo, representing Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, led the groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 22, alongside Bulacan 6th District Representative Salvador A. Pleyto Sr. and other local officials.
Bernardo highlighted the project's potential to significantly lower water costs for residents, who currently pay high prices for a drum of water.
The system will provide clean water to around 3,000 households in Barangay San Mateo and the neighboring Barangay Bigte.
Initiated through the efforts of Pleyto, the project also aims to improve health and sanitation by reducing waterborne diseases.
Furthermore, it is expected to foster local economic development by enhancing irrigation and supporting livelihood activities.
The San Mateo Water Supply System will be implemented in three phases: Phase 1 will serve Barangay Bigte, Phase 2 will cover San Mateo Proper and Sitio Compra, and Phase 3 will extend to Ipo Road and Ipo View Deck.
Once completed, the project is expected to address the long-standing need for accessible and affordable water, thereby significantly improving the lives of residents in Norzagaray.
