212 loose guns recovered in Caraga


BUTUAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-13 reported on Monday, Nov. 25, the recovery of 212 loose firearms and nine explosives from Oct. 24 to Nov. 24.

PRO 13-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said 144 firearms were voluntarily surrendered under “Oplan: Bakal” and “Oplan: Katok” while 66 guns were seized through search warrants and response operations.

The  Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-13 recovered four explosives, two by the Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO), one by Agusan del Norte PPO, and two by the Province of Dinagat Islands PPO.

Eighty-one firearms were recovered in Agusan del Sur, followed by Agusan del Norte with 43, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur with 35 each, Dinagat Islands, five; Butuan City, four, and other PRO-13 units, nine.

Ometer said 12 suspects were arrested through search warrants and response operations during the same period.

The most recent operation was conducted in Barobo town, Surigao del Sur where five suspects were arrested. Two hand grenades, two .45 caliber pistols, and a .30 caliber rifle were recovered from them.

PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Alan M. Nazarro commended operating units for their achievements and urged the people of Caraga to remain vigilant.

“I encourage every peace-loving Caraganons to remain vigilant and report immediately any suspicious person or activity to their nearest police station.”
