Aberin named as new Metro Manila top cop

Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin will take over the helm of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Saturday, Nov. 23, a move that stemmed from the relief of two senior police officials over allegations of anomalies in the conduct of raids against Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).

Aberin replaces Police Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia who was named as the new director of the Area Police Command-Southern Luzon. The PNP leadership is yet to name Aberin’s replacement as director of the Central Visayas regional police.

The new reshuffle also involved Police Maj. Gen. Ronnie Francis Cariaga who was named as the new commander of the Area Police Command-Northern Luzon.

Both Hernia and Cariaga were earlier relieved for 10 days as Metro Manila police top cop and head of the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), respectively, amid investigations on the claims of wrongdoings in a POGO raid in Malate, Manila last month.

Their relief, however, was aimed at giving way to an all-out probe currently being conducted by a top-level probe team headed by Lt. Gen. Michael John Dubria, according to PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo.

On the other hand, Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Ardiente was re-assigned to the Police Regional Office 12 from the PNP Academy.
