CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Oriental Mindoro Rep. Alfonso V. Umali Jr. was named as one of the 11 outstanding legislators of the Philippines in the recent Gawad Pilipino Awards for this year in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
Three other local government officials from Mindoro – Mayor Malou F. Morillo of Calapan City, Mayor Rocky D. Ilagan of Puerto Galera, and Mayor Ferdinand Maliwanag of Mansalay – were awarded as outstanding mayors.
Gawad Pilipino is an annual event established on Feb. 28, 2015 to recognize the unsung heroes who, through their passion and work ethics, shape the country’s culture, tradition, and society.
“We believe in the power of recognition as a means to inspire others and promote the values we hold dear,” Gawad Pilipino Awards said in a social media post.
“We strive to honor the achievements of our people, to inspire future generations, and to foster a sense of pride and unity in our nation,” it added.
Umali dedicated the award to his constituents. “This award is for you. This reminds us of our collective strength to achieve further progress of our district.”
Morillo thanked her constituents and encouraged them to continuously believe, support, and embrace her advocacy of delivering equitable social services, revitalization of local economy, and promotion of environmental sustainability.
