Two of the most historic museums in Intramuros reopened their doors to the public yesterday, November 22, 2024. First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos joined the grand reopening of Centro de Turismo Intramuros and Museo de Intramuros located at Anda St. Intramuros, Manila City. Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuña, Senate President Chiz Escudero, and Sen. Robin Padilla were also present in the grand opening of the two iconic sites.
To officially declare the reopening of Museo de Intramuros and Centro de Turismo Intramuros, the First Lady led the symbolic Bell Ring Ceremony, joined by the Senate President and Jenny Alcazar of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development and National Commission for Culture and Arts Chairperson Victorino Manalo.
The special preview days will run starting until November 24. Both Centro de Intramuros and Museo de Intramuros operate from Tuesdays to Sundays, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Intramuros Administration announced the fees of the access pass for both museums: ₱150 for regular visitors and ₱120 for discounted rates.
Tickets are also available on Klook and via Intramuros official website.
Meanwhile, the grand reopening of the two historic Intramuros sites was followed by the lighting ceremony of Meralco lights at the Plaza Roma in front of Manila Cathedral.
The First Lady, together with other government officials, also joined the harmonious lighting ceremony.
For Intramuros administrator Joan Padilla, the lighting of the historic Plaza Roma symbolizes the spark of hope for every Filipino who was greatly affected by typhoons that stuck down different areas of the country.
“We also offer hopes to fellow Filipinos, especially those who were affected by the recent typhoons. May this festive season bring comfort and strength as they rebuild their lives,” Padilla said in her opening remarks.
Until January 6, 2025, the Meralco Liwanag Park at Intramuros will cater to visitors as the Intramuros Administration brings the spirit of Christmas.
Senate President Chiz Escudero also reminded the Filipino people to never neglect the value of Christmas despite the challenges brought by recent calamities.
“Sa kabila ng kalamidad na kinakaharap natin, importante pa rin na alalahanin natin ang diwa ng Pasko sa pamamagitan man lamang ng simpleng ilaw, para hindi natin makaligtaan ang diwa ng okasyong ito, na kapanganakan ni Hesus (Despite the calamities we face, it’s important that we remember the essence of Christmas even with just simple lights, so we do not forget the importance of this occassion, which is the birthday of Jesus Christ),” Escudero said as he witnessed the lighting ceremony.
Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuña invited the tourists as she gave credit to the Intramuros Administration: “Lahat po kayo ay iniimbitahan namin sa Intramuros, mas pinaganda po ito ng Intramuros Administration under the Department of Tourism.”
