A 32-year-old Pinoy from Mindanao is turning heads in the 26th Season of “The Voice.”
Sofronio Vasquez just made it to the Top 20 of the American reality competition, wowing show judges with his take on Dusty Springfield's legendary soul hit "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me."
Though it is still everybody’s guess if he would actually make it all the way to the championship round, Sofronio has no doubt, already earned the notice of many.
One of the show judges, singer Jennifer Hudson, was so moved with Sofronio’s performance that she playfully threw her shoes at him.
She expressed, “Did you all get to see that? … The talent is crazy, I don’t know what you’re gonna do. I’m serious, like, my heart. Oh my God!”
Michael Bublé added, "He's special, he's unique...He reminds me of a mix between Bruno Mars and Michael Jackson. If I was Jennifer Hudson, I would have been throwing my shoes at him."
Sofronio took to Instagram to celebrate the feat.
He posted, “See you at the PlayOffs! TOP 20 na tayo. Thank you, Lord.”
Prior to his stint on “The Voice,” Sofronio was a finalist on “Tawag Ng Tanghalan.”
While auditioning for “The Voice,” Sofronio shared how he learned to sing at a young age, hoping it would eventually free him and his family from the shackles of poverty.
“I really want to be somebody who can help my family back there,” he said. “If I get a chair turn, it’s going to be big for my family and help me provide (them) a life that they deserve.”
