PAGASA: Scattered rains to prevail over extreme N. Luzon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Nov. 21, that the northeast monsoon and shear line will bring rains over parts of extreme Northern Luzon in the next 24 hours.

Batanes is expected to experience cloudy skies with rain showers due to the northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan.”

Meanwhile, the shear line, the boundary between warm easterly winds and cold northeasterly winds, will bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and isolated thunderstorms to Babuyan Islands.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides in areas affected by the amihan and shear line, as moderate to heavy rains may occur.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as the “easterlies.”

From Friday to Sunday, Nov. 22 to 24, PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the shear line may continue to bring cloudy skies, rains, and isolated thunderstorms over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, and Apayao.

Meanwhile, scattered rains and thunderstorms may affect most of Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, and Palawan due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge.

Estareja warned that flash floods and landslides may occur because of the rains from the ITCZ.

The rest of the country is expected to experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Estareja added that no tropical cyclones will affect the country through Sunday.
