Malabon LGU holds disaster response, management caravan

The Malabon City government held the “Ahon Disaster Caravan” on Tuesday, Nov. 19, aimed at equipping residents, most especially children, with the proper knowledge on disaster and emergency response during calamities.

"Layunin natin na masiguro ang kaligtasan ng mga Malabueño bago pa man maapektuhan ang lungsod ng malalakas na ulan na dulot ng bagyo. Kaya isa ang Ahon Disaster Caravan na ating ipinatupad upang ihanda sila sa anumang sakuna ang dumating (Our goal is to ensure the safety of Malabueños before the city is affected by heavy rains caused by typhoons. The Ahon Disaster Caravan is one of the initiatives that we have implemented to prepare them for any disaster that may come)," Mayor Jeannie Sandoval said.

The Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) explained that its Information and Education Campaign (IEC) aims to build a culture of safety and resilience among students, parents, and teachers.

Focused on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), the campaign educates participants on how to respond effectively in the face of natural and man-made disasters, thereby fostering a proactive approach to safety in school and home environments.

The activity includes interactive educational learning sessions, drills and simulations, and resource materials like booklets and posters with guides on how to respond to actual emergencies. It also ensures the active participation of students, parents, and teachers emphasizing the importance of creating a safety-oriented mindset among the entire school community.

"By providing knowledge and preparing  students, parents, and teachers on disaster response, we aim to promote a strong culture of readiness that extends beyond school walls to homes and neighborhoods," city administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete said.
