REFLECTIONS TODAY

Failure to read the signs of the times often brings us misfortune or loss. Just like we can get lost while traveling in an unfamiliar place if we do not pay heed to the signs. As Christians, we cannot simply live our lives without an awareness of what is happening around us. The biblical examples of people in the days of Noah leading to the Flood and the people during the time of Lot leading to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah are proverbial examples of how complacency and indifference to the signs around us lead to doom. On the contrary, being watchful and vigilant of the signs and events allows us to respond accordingly and avoid destruction. The Lord’s return cannot be predicted; it can happen any time, and woe to us if we are caught unprepared for it. One of the most painful experiences in life is to realize that it is too late to undo what we could have easily done had we only been mindful and diligent. Fortunately for us, we still have time. In fact, every day is a chance to be prepared for the Lord’s return.
First Reading • 2 Jn 4-9
I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth just as we were commanded by the Father. But now, Lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing a new commandment but the one we have had from the beginning: let us love one another. For this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, in which you should walk.
Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh; such is the deceitful one and the antichrist. Look to yourselves that you do not lose what we worked for but may receive a full recompense. Anyone who is so “progressive” as not to remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God; whoever remains in the teaching has the Father and the Son.”
