Philippine Brahminy Kite Eagle rescued in Surigao del Sur

BUTUAN CITY – A Brahminy Kite Eagle was rescued and turned over to police in Lingig, Surigao del Sur on Sunday afternoon.

Police said the eagle was found by a resident in Sitio Kabilan, Barangay Poblacion in good condition.

“We express gratitude for the resident’s responsible actions, which ensured the bird’s safety and well-being,” police added.

The Police Regional Office-13 has ordered the turnover of the eagle to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Community Environment and Natural Resources Office for proper care, disposition, and evaluation.

PRO 13-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer said the DENR-CENRO will determine the eagle’s health and provide necessary health and food support before eventual release back to the forest.

Meanwhile, 112 PRO-13 personnel recently completed a five-day animal protection training.

They will serve as animal welfare enforcement officers in their stations, overseeing reports and cases involving cruelty to animals.

They also learned about the legal processes for filing cases and managing animal cruelty complaints.

The training was a joint project of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and PRO-13 to strengthen police ability to act against animal cruelty, in relation to Republic Act No. 8485, the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, as amended by RA No. 10631.
