Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto led the inauguration of the newly-renovated emergency room of the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center (GABMC), saying it now has become at par with private hospitals.
Director Dr. Ted Martin thanked the mayor for the support.
He also said that since 1998, it is only now that the Tondo hospital has become fully-airconditioned.
Lacuna-Pangan and Nieto were joined during the ribbon-cutting by Dr. Martin, Dr. Rio Magpantay, Dr. Jose Mari Castro of Department of Health (DOH), Baseco Hospital Director Dr. Edwin Perez and DOH representatives Arch. David Xavier Dado and Engr. Jasper Abayari.
The mayor thanked the DOH for the help and said that the improvements were made possible through its Health Facilities Enhancement Program, which aims to improve public health facilities in the country.
Apart from the budget coming from the city government, the DOH also gave financial contributions for the renovations made in GABMMC.
She announced that the fully airconditioned emergency room features 30 new hospital beds with a new strategic layout to provide the nurses a view of all patients, OB-GYN section, decontamination and isolation areas.
The room was also installed with closed circuit television (CCTV) devices for the security of the patients.
Martin stressed that having a doctor at the helm of the city government really plays a big part in how the health services are delivered to the people of Manila.
He lauded the kind of genuine care and concern being shown by the local government to the residents of Tondo as the GABMMC serves as the city-run hospital in the first district.
The local government said each district has its own hospital being operated by the local government.
Pursuant to the orders of the mayor, Dr. Martin said all the city hospitals, including the GABMMC, continue improving their services in attending to emergency cases and to always be guided by compassion and dedication.
According to Martin, GABMMC has now properly- arranged patients based on the cases or departments, complete with DOH isolation requirements.
"Mas maayos na, mas maaliwalas at mas komportable sa patients at sa mga staff at nag-expand kami with additional beds. We now have emergency equipment and medical supplies, CCTV and Wi-Fi for communication requirements (It is now more orderly, cozier and more comfortable for patients and staff and we have expanded with additional beds. We now have emergency equipment and medical supplies, CCTV and Wi-Fi for communication requirements)," Martin said.
"St. Luke' s look-a-like design na ang GABMMC, hindi na rin nahuhuli sa mga private hospital, all for the people of Tondo (GABMMC is St. Luke's look-a-like design, no longer lagging behind private hospitals, all for the people of Tondo)," he added.
