Open forum: Mayor Tiangco addresses Navoteños' concerns, inquiries online

Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco connected with residents and addressed their questions, inquiries, and complaints in a Facebook live on Monday, November 18.
The session served as an open platform for residents to voice their concerns, covering a wide range of topics.
Common issues raised included the requirements for obtaining a Persons with Disability (PWD) ID, delays in receiving notifications for the TUPAD program, and questions about the release of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) payroll stipend.
Other concerns included the state of the city’s canals and drainage systems, as well as difficulties accessing government programs like 4Ps, AKAP, and TUPAD.
Tiangco reassured residents that the city government is actively addressing these matters and working to improve service delivery.
During the session, Mayor Tiangco also highlighted recent accomplishments, such as the signing of new contracts for participants in the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
Additionally, 1,915 individuals—including vendors, job seekers, social pension applicants, and contract-of-service employees—were accepted into the Ayuda sa Kapos Ang Kita Program (AKAP).
The mayor emphasized the city government’s efforts to provide opportunities through its “Hanapbuhay Caravan” for residents while stressing the importance of securing a permanent livelihood or business over short-term financial assistance.
“We offer various programs through the Hanapbuhay Center for our residents. While financial aid is important, having a permanent livelihood or business provides more stability,” Tiangco remarked, urging residents to take full advantage of the city’s livelihood programs.
He also reassured residents that the city government offers business capital assistance and loans for those looking to establish or expand their businesses.
Moreover, skill development programs are available for individuals interested in learning new trades.
“The goal is to ensure a steady income for our residents, with opportunities that go beyond one-time aid,” Tiangco added. “We are here to help if you need assistance with loans or want to learn new skills for your business.”
The mayor also shared several initiatives and activities for November 17 to 25.
These include blessings for intensive care units and specialty clinics, a sports complex gym, multipurpose buildings, and the groundbreaking of NavotaAs Homes-III.
The city will kick off its festive season with the Christmas Tree lighting, the opening of the Christmas Bazaar, and the relaunch of Navoconnect free Wi-Fi, on Thursday, November 21.
