Fans are getting a PBA treat as the storied Manila Clasico duel between Barangay Ginebra and Magnolia takes place on Christmas Day for the mid-season Commissioner's Cup.
The league unveiled the full elimination schedule of the tournament with the Kings and the Hotshots making their first meeting of the season in the main event of the Dec. 25 double-header that will also feature a clash between Meralco and Converge.
It will be the fourth straight Christmas Day game for Ginebra and the first against Magnolia since they last played against each other in 2021.
The Kings were also featured last year in the Christmas Day games in the last three seasons, facing up against the TNT Tropang Giga in 2023 and opening the Commissioner’s Cup Finals series against Bay Area Dragons in 2022.
Meanwhile, fireworks are expected in the PBA return on Nov. 27 with the retooled Converge opening the curtain with a showdown against Terrafirma at the PhilSports Arena.
Interestingly, the FiberXers' newly acquired guard Jordan Heading is set for his PBA debut against the Dyip, the very same team that selected him as part of the special Gilas draft back in 2020.
PBA’s new guest team Hong Kong Eastern also makes their debut against the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the opening day of the conference.
Like the previous Governors’ Cup, the mid-season conference schedule is compact with the league playing five days a week at most with the first game still tipping off at 5 p.m. and the second game at 7:30 p.m.
After the Christmas Day game, the league takes a two-week break before returning to action on Jan. 5 next year.
The Commissioner’s Cup also has two out-of-town games scheduled, the first a Converge-Ginebra showdown in Batangas on Dec. 21 and then a San Miguel- Meralco clash in Candon, Ilocos Sur on Jan. 18.
