Two drug syndicate members wounded in brief firefight with Bulacan police


Two suspected members of a local illegal drugs syndicate were wounded and arrested in a brief firefight with Bulacan police in an anti-drug operation in Meycauayan, Bulacan on Sunday, November 17.

According to the police report, the anti-drug operation ended in an encounter between operatives of the Meycauayan police and two big-time drug peddlers believed members of a local illegal drug syndicate.

Recovered from the suspects were 800 grams of suspected shabu with a standard drug price of P5,440,000 and an automatic 9mm Rifle (Uzi) with bullets and magazines. 

Investigation showed that operatives of the Special Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) of the City were conducting a casing and surveillance operation in Barangay Pandayan against the suspects identified as alias "Dan" and alias "Analyn".

Suddenly, alias "Dan" opened fire on the authorities in a private car which ensued in a brief firefight when the police retaliated firing while chasing the suspects until cornered and arrested.

The two suspects were both wounded, while PCapt. Jocel Calvario, Chief of the Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Unit, was also injured in the left leg. 

All the injured were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital and the Provincial Forensic Unit also quickly went to the scene of the incident to ensure proper investigation and processing at the crime scene.

In the statement of Brig. Gen. Redrico A. Maranan, Central Luzon police regional director, emphasized the dedication and courage of operatives of the Meycauayan City Police Station in their fight against drugs. He commended the efficiency and courage of the Meycauayan City Police Station, particularly the Special Drug Enforcement Unit, for the successful operation against illegal drugs.

"Our campaign against illegal drugs is not just about making arrests but about restoring safety and security to our communities. We will continue our efforts to suppress illegal drugs and bring justice to its victims,” Brig. Gen. Maranan said.
