SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The provincial government led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David is implementing comprehensive and province-wide measures to ensure the safety of the people and mitigate the impact of super typhoon “Pepito.”
Ortega and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has ordered all local government units to enforce preemptive evacuation in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
Evacuation centers across the province and barangay DRRMs have been prepared to accommodate evacuees.
Ortega assured the availability of food packs, clean water, medical supplies, and essential equipment.
Heavy machinery is ready for deployment for clearing operations and emergency generator sets have been deployed to critical facilities, including hospitals and evacuation centers.
Relief services for augmentation are being prepared for distribution to LGUs to meet the needs of evacuees.
The La Union Command Center is operating 24/7 to provide real-time updates and receive emergency reports.
LGUs in coastal areas have been ordered to temporarily suspend all water activities such as swimming, fishing, and boating, due to hazardous sea conditions caused by the typhoon.
The provincial government encouraged the people to remain vigilant, stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and monitor official announcements from authorities regarding Pepito.
Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office-3 is prepared to provide assistance for people affected by Pepito.
PRO-3 Director Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said police are on alert due to Pepito.
He has directed all regional, provincial, and city mobile force companies to coordinate with local governments for the conduct of evacuation of people affected by the typhoon.
"Our trained members of our police force are now ready to conduct search, rescue, and retrieval operations, as well as our PRO-3 food bank for immediate relief goods to those affected.”
