Baguio under blue alert for 'Pepito'

BAGUIO CITY – This city is under blue alert status starting 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, as super typhoon “Pepito” begins to cross Luzon.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong will declare a red alert status at 4 p.m. when Pepito enters the landmass.

Magalong said that risk analysis and monitoring, preparedness, and contingency planning for response will continue as the howler is seen to unleash intense to torrential rains here from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon, Nov. 18, based on latest weather forecasts.

This city and the province of Benguet are under storm signal No. 4 as of 11 a.m. Sunday.

The Baguio City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council headed by Magalong urged the public to be on alert and vigilant for typhoon hazards.

Under a blue alert status, the CDRRMO said that the emergency operations center and response clusters will be reactivated to oversee response operations, with the CDRRMO and the Smart City Command Center at the helm of coordinating frontline activities.

Emergency hotline 911 will be on hand to receive calls for assistance.

The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Committees will activate their own EOCs, monitor their areas of responsibility, and provide emergency response and advise those living in flood- and landslide-prone areas to conduct preemptive evacuation.

The General Services Office (GSO) will advise barangays on proper management of wastes to prevent scattering and flooding at the City Camp basin.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) will ensure that relief goods and evacuation centers are ready for evacuees.
