Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro on Saturday, November 16, ordered the prepositioning of rescue boats in strategic areas of the city in preparation for the onslaught of Super Typhoon Pepito.
The local government also said that evacuation camps are also ready, with equipment like modular tents currently being set up.
Teodoro instructed camp managers overseeing evacuation areas to stay on standby while the Marikina City Rescue 161 or the city's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), continues to monitor and assess the overall situation in the city.
The Marikina City Rescue 161 also reminded Marikeños to stay alert for the approaching typhoon, as it is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds that may cause property damage and loss of life.
It encouraged the public to inspect and secure their roofs, safeguard important documents, prepare emergency kits for quick evacuation, assess physical readiness for sudden evacuation, and charge mobile phones, radios, and flashlights.
It also reminded residents to be familiarized with the emergency hotlines of their barangay, local emergency hotline (Dial 161), BFP, and PNP, and to identify the nearest evacuation area in their location.
As of Saturday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has raised Signal No. 2 in Metro Manila.
PAGASA anticipates that "Pepito" will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday, November 18.
