DAGUPAN CITY – Pangasinan Rep. Christopher de Venecia on Friday led the groundbreaking ceremony for the Edades and Bernal Cultural Center and Museum on a vacant lot on Judge Jose de Venecia Sr. Highway in Barangay Pantal here.
PANGASINAN Rep. Christopher de Venecia and Mayor Belen Fernandez lead the groundbreaking rites of the Edades and Bernal Cultural Center and Museum in Dagupan City.
The new cultural landmark honors two of the Philippines' most esteemed national artists, Victorio Edades and Salvador Bernal.
The museum will feature the works of Edades, known as “the father of modern Philippine painting,” and Bernal, “the father of theater design.”
Both hail from Dagupan and were named national artists — Edades in 1976 and Bernal in 2003.
The establishment of the Edades and Bernal Cultural Center and Museum is mandated by Republic Act No. 11726 authored by De Venecia.
Mayor Belen Fernandez here, National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Deputy Executive Director Marichu Tellano, Zheanne Aeson Dantis, communications head for Sen. Pia Cayetano, Angeline Bernal-Samson, Bernal’s sister, and Mariano “Boy” Aguinaldo, a former student of Edades, also graced the ceremony.
Cayetano has allocated P50 million for the construction of the museum while the lot for the museum was donated by the family of Fernandez.
