Baguio allots P1-M aid each for storm-battered provinces


BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Benjamin Magalong announced that the city government is preparing a total of P5 million as assistance for provinces severely affected by recent tropical cyclones "Kristine" and "Nika."

Magalong, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), said the DRRM Quick Response Fund will be tapped for the financial assistance for Batanes, Albay, Cagayan, Isabela, and Apayao.

He said each province will receive P1 million from the city government upon approval of the Sangguniang Panglungsod.

Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer V Engr. Charles Bryan Carame said that funding was based on the reported number of affected families and affected houses.

Magalong said that early preparation and mitigation saved this city from the effects of the two tropical cyclones.

The city government hopes that early preparation and mitigation as well as response mechanisms in place will keep the city and its residents safe from forthcoming tropical cyclones, particularly super typhoon “Pepito.
