Northern Samar governor suspends classes due to 'Pepito'

TACLOBAN CITY – Gov. Edwin Ongchuan suspended classes on all levels in Northern Samar on Friday, Nov. 15, as precautionary measure due to typhoon “Pepito” (international name “Man-yi”).

Ongchuan said that Friday will remain a working day for provincial capitol employees to ensure that essential equipment and documents are safeguarded against the possible impact of Pepito.

Catarman Mayor Francisco Aurelio Rosales III suspended work in the local government, except frontline offices.

The Philippine Coast Guard Station in Northern Samar temporarily suspended voyages for all vessels and watercraft operating within its jurisdiction.

Acting station commander Ensign Bryhl Amay urged all mariners to prioritize safety and follow prescribed protocols to mitigate risks associated with Pepito.

The weather in Leyte is calm and not under any warning but nearby areas are under storm signal No. 2 – the eastern portion of Northern Samar (Mapanas, Gamay, Palapag, and Lapinig) and the northern portion of Eastern Samar (Arteche, Oras, San Policarpo, Dolores, Jipapad, and Maslog).

The rest of Northern Samar, the rest of Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran are under signal No. 1.
