A 25-year-old man was arrested after he assaulted a 53-year-old security guard on duty in a commercial establishment in Barangay 20, Tondo, Manila.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the suspect as alias "JJ" resident of Pier 2.

According to Lt. Col. Marlon Mallorca, station commander of MPD Delpan Police Station, the incident happened around 2 a.m. on November 13, while the victim was walking to buy food at a nearby store.

The victim said the suspect and his two cohorts suddenly appeared and asked him for a cigarette and then repeatedly punched him in the head.

The suspect also took the victim's service gun and pulled the trigger several times while aiming at the victim but it did not fire because of its safety lock.

The suspects fled with the victim's gun.

The victim immediately sought help from the patrolling policeman who immediately launched an operation with the MPD Intelligence and Warrant Section.

With the help of the barangay officials, the suspects were easily identified and located.

JJ, who police said was the leader of a group, was arrested while his two cohorts are still being sought.

Police recovered from the suspect the victim's service firearm, a 9mm Armscor pistol.

Police said the arrested suspect and his two cohorts will face robbery and attempted murder cases.
