Former UP men’s basketball team coach Ricky Dandan has died, Bo Perasol posted on his social media Wednesday, Nov. 13. He was 61.
“Rest In Peace, Tol - A true and loyal friend Coach Ricky Dandan,” Perasol said.
Dandan served as head coach for the State U in the UAAP, guiding the Fighting Maroons from 2011 to 2013.
He led multiple teams from the collegiate, semi-pro and professional ranks, starting from the late 1990s.
It included stints at the now defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) and Philippine Basketball League (PBL) with the Manila Metrostars and Ateneo-Happee/Pioneer.
Dandan then transitioned as an assistant for past PBA clubs Air21 Express and Powerade Tigers before joining the UP program.
In 2017, he moved to the Colombian Dyip, where he stayed for almost six years.
Dandan worked again for UP in the 2020-21 season and then suited up for the Bataan Risers in Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) a year after.
