VP Sara sets one condition before appearing at quad-comm hearing

Vice President Sara Duterte will only face the House quad-committee that’s looking into her father’s bloody war on drugs campaign if she’s in the mood to argue.

Speaking to reporters, the official disclosed that she wasn’t invited yet to the House quad-comm hearing.

But asked if she would attend the hearing if she was invited, the Vice President answered in the negative.

“Hindi siguro (Maybe not),” she said on Monday, Nov. 11 in Bacolod City, adding that she would need to think about it first because she’s currently busy with the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) upcoming 89th anniversary celebrations.

“Pag gusto ko siguro makipagaway, a-attend ako. Pero sa ngayon kasi parang ano—sa January na lang makipagaway. Kasi sobra busy talaga ‘yung thanksgiving ng 89th anniversary (If I want to fight, I will attend. But for now maybe I can fight in January. I’m really busy because of the thanksgiving for the 89th anniversary),” Duterte explained.

For the first time, former president Rodrigo Duterte attended the 11th House quad-committee hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 13, after ignoring the previous inquiries.

The joint hearing of the House committees on dangerous drugs, public accounts, public order and safety, and human rights has been looking into the alleged reward system in the Duterte administration’s drug war.

The Vice President herself is a subject of the House good government committee hearing on the alleged misuse of public funds by the OVP and the Department of Education (DepEd) during her tenure as its secretary.

Saved for one, she had skipped all of the committee’s hearings, with OVP officials also being subpoenaed and cited in contempt for ignoring invitations to be the panel’s resource speakers.

Duterte explained that the OVP is currently busy with preparations for its 89th founding anniversary, which was why the executives were unable to appear before the House committee.
