Hotels come in all shapes and sizes, from ancestral-themed homes to sleek, modern designs. But have you ever visited a chicken-shaped hotel? Not just one with a statue of a chicken, but an entire hotel you can stay in that’s actually shaped like one?
Welcome to Campuestohan Highland Resort’s newest attraction, located in Campuestohan, Negros Occidental: a world-record-breaking hotel shaped like a giant rooster. Measuring 34.93 meters (114 feet 7 inches) high and 28.17 meters (92 feet 5 inches) long, this quirky building has earned its place in Guinness World Records as the largest structure of its kind.
The visionary behind this project, Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan, dreamed of creating something unforgettable. "I had a vision to make something with a wow factor that can really leave a footprint of admiration to the public," Tan shared in an interview with Guinness World Records.
When Ricardo’s wife, Nita, bought the land in 2010, they were captivated by the mountain views. Despite limited access, Tan transformed the remote spot into Campuestohan Highland Resort. He chose a rooster design for the hotel to honor Negros Occidental’s gamefowl industry and to reflect the resilient spirit of the local people, who, like roosters, face challenges with calm determination.
The project moved swiftly from concept to completion in under two years, resulting in a 15-room hotel with air conditioning, cozy beds, hot showers, and large TVs—perfect for families or groups to relax. The resort also features a wave pool, a restaurant, a cafe, three pools, bonita huts, and playful dinosaur and cartoon characters. Yet, the standout attraction remains the chicken-shaped hotel, now a source of pride for the Tan family and the local community.
“I feel proud and humbled at the same time. I'm proud to have put my province and my home country on Guinness World Records. Humbled as I am from a poor upbringing where I had to work as a shoeshine boy to earn a living and go to school. I have made my family, my province, and my country proud,” Tan shares.
This one-of-a-kind structure is more than a hotel; it’s a symbol of imagination, community, and resilience, drawing visitors from around the world to Campuestohan.
