Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, former Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said his administration did not stop from providing quality housing and public services to Manileños.
One of the housing projects in the city is the 20-storey San Lazaro Residences located at the corner of Alvarez and Quiricada Streets. Domagoso's administration led the groundbreaking ceremony of the housing project in August of 2021.
"Bukod sa 383 two-bedroom units, isinabay na rin po natin na ang pagpapagawa ng modernong Manila Public Health Laboratory ng ating lungsod nang sa gayon ay makasabay ito sa lumulobong populasyon at makapag-accommodate ng mas maraming tao na magpapalaboratoryo (Aside from 383 two-bedroom units, we have also started the construction of the Manila Public Health Laboratory that can accommodate the laboratory services needed by the growing population of the city)," Domagoso explained, as he expressed hope for the building's completion.
Aside from the advanced laboratory and health center, the building also houses a swimming pool, parking slots, elevators, activity lawns, function rooms, and a roof deck garden.
In October this year, the former mayor renewed his promise to give homeless Manileños their own place to live in as he vowed to prioritize housing and medical care improvements for residents if he becomes re-elected as the city's local chief executive.
"Ipamimigay ko na yung Pedro Gil Residence, San Lazaro Residence, saka San Sebastian Residence. Tatlong 20-storey yung ating in-city vertical housing program. Gusto ko, kahit papaano, umulan o bumagyo, magkaroon man ng delubyo, may mauuwian ang bawat pamilyang Manileño na walang sariling bahay. ‘Yun talaga ang unang-una kong gagawin (I will donate the Pedro Gil Residence, San Lazaro Residence, and San Sebastian Residence. Our in-city vertical housing program consists of these three 20-storey buildings. I want to make sure that despite of rains, typhoons, or any other calamity, each Manileño family has a place to go home to. This is my number one priority)," Domagoso said.
During his tenure as the city's mayor, Domagoso led the construction of six in-city vertical housing projects: the Tondominiums 1 & 2, Binondominium, San Sebastian Residences, San Lazaro Residences, and Pedro Gil Residences.
Before the end of his term, units in Tondominium 1, Tondominium 2, and Binondominium were already distributed to qualified Manileños.
Domagoso also completed the Basecommunity project, a 229-unit in-city horizontal public housing development in Baseco, Port Area, providing homes to 229 families.
