Five barangays in Mandaluyong City were recognized by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for their successful and outstanding implementation of barangay clearing operations (BARCO) in their respective areas.
According to the DILG, BARCO is one of the three component projects under the “Kalinga at Inisyatiba Para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN)” for the Bagong Pilipinas Program for the 2nd Quarter of 2024.
Mayor Benjamin Abalos and Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos hailed the recognition of these barangays for their excellence in clearing operations.
The local government said that Barangay Namayan led the recognition, receiving a certificate and a cash incentive of P7,000, while the following barangays were also recognized: Barangay Wack-Wack, 1st runner-up; New Zaniga, 2nd runner-up; Vergara, 3rd runner-up; and Old Zaniga, 4th runner-up.
Former Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos said the program aims to showcase the spirit of volunteerism while ensuring safe and healthy communities to live in. The DILG launched the Kalinisan program in January this year through a national simultaneous cleanup drive at the Baseco Compound in Manila, which coincided with the observance of the annual Community Development Day.
