Entertainment industry colleagues pay tribute to late Korean actor Song Jae-rim


People in the Korean entertainment industry paid tribute to the late actor Song Jae-rim who passed away on Nov. 12. He was 39. 

Song Jae-rim was found dead at his home Seongdong, Seoul at about 12:30 p.m. A friend who had made a lunch appointment visited, discovered Song Jae-rim, and reported it to the police, Korean media outlet Maeil Business Newspaper reported.

No foul play was involved in his death, according to the police. 

“So far, no suspicion of murder or other crime has been confirmed,” said a police officer at Seongdong Police Station. 

Korean media outlets also reported that a two-page suicide note was found at the scene.

On his Instagram account, Song Jae-rim wrote “a long journey begins.” His last post was on Jan. 23 this year and the comment function on his Instagram account was turned off. 

Born in 1985, Song Jae-rim debuted as an actor in 2009 and gained attention when he played the role of warrior Kim Jae-woon in the 2012 drama “Moon Embracing the Sun,” which starred Kim Soo-hyun, Han Ga-in, Jung Il-woo, and Kim Min-seo. 

Actor Jung Eun-pyo, who played Kim Soo-hyun’s chief eunuch and friend, Hyung-sun, paid tribute to Song Jae-rim by uploading a photo of them together on the set of “Moon Embracing the Sun” on Instagram. 

“Goodbye. I hope you have a happy journey,” Jung Eun-pyo wrote.

Actor Park Ho-san, who appeared in the drama “The Penthouse: War in Life,” posted a photo taken with Song Jae-rim on Instagram and wrote, “Jae-rim. You were such a bright person. I can’t believe it. I’m sorry. I’m really sorry for not being able to contact you and take care of you.”

Broadcaster Hong Seok-cheon said, “I’m sad that I won’t be able to see your wonderful smile again. I’m devastated that I couldn’t take better care of you and had to send you off without saying goodbye,” and added, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry again. I didn’t do a good job as a brother. Rest in peace.”

Song Jae-rim’s wake is at Yeouido St. Mary's Funeral Hall and the funeral will be at noon on Nov. 14. 

According to the funeral hall website, the wake of Song Jae-rim is at Room No. 2. The cremation will be at the Seoul Metropolitan Crematorium. 

Song Jae-rim’s popularity soared when he appeared on the reality TV show “We Got Married’ season 4 from 2014 to 2015 and was paired with actress Kim So-eun. 

He also appeared in the dramas “Cool Guys, Hot Ramen," "Two Weeks," "Unkind Ladies," "Goodbye Mr. Black," "Our Gap-soon," "My Military Valentine," and "Queen Woo."
