The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced on Tuesday, Nov. 12 that it has downgraded the alert status for Bulusan Volcano from Alert Level 1 (low-level unrest) to Alert Level 0 (normal) due to a sustained decline in volcanic activity.

Bulusan Volcano has been under Alert Level 1 since October 2022.

Phivolcs cited several key observations, including a decrease in volcanic earthquakes and sulfur dioxide emissions, as evidence that the volcano has returned to normal conditions.

Although the volcano is no longer showing signs of imminent eruption, Phivolcs warned that the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone around the summit should still be avoided due to the potential for sudden steam-driven eruptions, rockfalls, and landslides.

The public is also advised to remain alert for possible lahars during heavy rainfall.
