Singson pushes 'bank for the masses,' e-jeepneys

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Businessman and former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson, a candidate for senator in next year’s elections, plans to empower Filipinos and drive economic growth.

Speaking in a press conference in a popular mall here, Singson said that his flagship project, "Banko ng Masa," aims to address the staggering statistics that 77 percent of Filipinos lack bank accounts and 95 percent do not have debit or credit cards.

Singson said his plan seeks to provide every Filipino aged 18 and above with access to a bank account and a credit card, including Visa cards tailored to specific localities.

He committed to making make e-jeepneys accessible to drivers through a unique financing scheme with zero downpayment, zero collateral, and no interest.

This will empower jeepney drivers while addressing air pollution and traffic congestion, he said.

"My plan will not only help drivers earn more but also create a more sustainable and efficient transportation system for everyone," he said.

Singson pledged to support the financing scheme, particularly for drivers and tricycle operators in Lucban, Quezon, and will only transact with their president.
