Classes in Muntinlupa suspended for Nov. 11 due to #NikaPH


Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon suspended classes in all levels in public and private schools for Nov. 11 due to Severe Tropical Storm “Nika” (“Toraji”). 

Biazon made the announcement as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) put Metro Manila under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1. 

“Posible ang malakas na ulan at bilang pag-iingat, suspended ang klase sa lahat ng antas, public and private schools sa Muntinlupa, bukas, November 11, 2024 (Heavy rain is possible and as a precaution, classes are suspended in all levels, public and private schools in Muntinlupa, tomorrow, November 11, 2024),” Biazon posted on Facebook on Nov. 10.

He added classes in  Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Alternative Learning System are also suspended. 

The mayor reminded parents and students that the Department of Education has automatic class suspension guidelines and when there is a storm signal, classes are automatically suspended. 

In a bulletin issued at 8 p.m. on Nov. 10, PAGASA said “Nika’ has slightly decelerated over the Philippine Sea east of Aurora. 

“The center of Severe Tropical Storm NIKA was estimated based on all available data including Baler and Daet Weather Radar at 335 km East Northeast of Infanta, Quezon or  330 km East of Baler, Aurora (15.4°N, 124.7°E). Maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 135 km/h, and central pressure of 980 hPa,” according to PAGASA.

The southeastern portion of Isabela (Dinapigue, Palanan) and the northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan)
