The country’s crime incidents significantly dropped by 62 percent during the administration of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla.

The DILG said that latest records from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed 83,059 crime incidents occurred nationwide from July 1, 2022 to July 28, 2024 – covering the first two years of the administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

This marked a huge decline to 217,830 crime incidents during the same period from 2016 to 2018 under the administration former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Remulla also noted that the crime clearance efficiency rate and crime solution efficiency rate also rose by 27 percent and 10 percent, respectively, during the same period.

Remulla bared the data to dispute Duterte’s claim during a Senate hearing on the bloody war on drugs last Oct. 28 that crime remains rampant under the current administration.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin thumbed down Duterte’s assertion, citing the decline in crime incidents recorded in the country since Marcos assumed his post.

He maintained that the Marcos administration has achieved stability and maintained peace and order in the country without foregoing due process nor setting aside the basic human rights of any Filipino.

"All of this shows that our country is safer, our people more secure, and our future more assured than ever before under the stewardship of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr," Bersamin said.

Meanwhile, Remulla praised the PNP as he noted that the significant feats “are a testament to the unrelenting commitment of the PNP to continuously serve and protect the public from criminality and lawlessness.”

With this positive development, Remulla urged the PNP to continuously fulfill their sworn duties “as vanguards of peace and order towards a safe and peaceful Bagong Pilipinas.”
