Marcos says father's work must be continued

President Marcos believes he needs to continue what his father, former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr., had started.

As he visited the tomb of his father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani on the All Souls' Day on Friday, Nov. 1, Marcos said that for his father to be able to rest in peace, the work that he started must be continued.

"Alam ninyo pagka mayroon tayong patay nakalagay diyan RIP, rest in peace. Siyempre ‘yan din ang ninanais natin para sa aking ama (You know, whenever there is dead, there is a RIP, rest in peace, sign. Of course, that's what we also want for our father)," he said.

"Ngunit hindi sapat na sasabihin lang natin rest in peace. Para mag-rest in peace ang aking ama, kailangan ipagpatuloy natin ang trabahong sinimulan niya, ipagpatuloy natin ang pagpaganda ng Pilipinas, at ang pagmamahal sa Pilipino (But it's enough that we say rest in peace. For him to rest in peace, we need to continue the work he started, the effort to develop the Philippines and his love for the Filipino people)," he added.

The President visited the tomb of his father along with his mother, former first lady Imelda Marcos.

During his visit, he also thanked those who joined his family at the cemetery to pay respect for his father, saying the observance of the Day of the Dead became more meaningful because of them.

"Mas naging makabuluhan ang aming Undas dahil sa inyong pagdating. At lalong-lalo na dahil nararamdaman namin na mula sa inyo ang pagmamahal ninyo sa aking ama at sa pag-alala sa aking ama (The observance of the All Souls' Day became more meaningful because of your presence and especially, because of your love for my father)," he said.
