Gov't won't stop until everybody recovers from 'Kristine' — Marcos

President Marcos on Friday, Nov. 1, said the government will not stop until all those who need help in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Kristine are reached.

The President also vowed that under the administration’s slogan of Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines), the government will strengthen its response against climate change in a bid to achieve the following:

  • lessen the casualties during calamities
  • lessen the number of individuals and families affected, and
  • protect the small communities and the livelihood of the people

The government will make the move as Marcos asserted that “every life is important” under the New Philippines.

Marcos’ commitment was made as he delivered a message for the public as they observed the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, and remembered the lives lost during the recent storm.

In his vlog, the President talked about disaster resilience and stressed the deteriorating weather condition.

"Dahil nga ang panahon ay nagbabago na, ang tag init ay sobrang init, ang tag ulan, grabe naman ang ulan (The weather condition is changing. Hot weather is now hotter, and rainy season brings more rain)," he said.

Marcos said he already accepted that the changing weather condition is already "part of our life," so he just expressed commitment that the government would strengthen its national and local disaster risk reduction response.

Help will also reach even the areas of his political rivals' stronghold, like what he showed during Kristine, which hit the Bicol region.

"Hindi tayo titigil hanggat di pa nakakabangon ang lahat. Walang pagod ang ating mga ahensya (We will not stop until everybody has recovered. Our government agencies will not get tired)," he said.

"Naririnig namin ang inyong saklolo at ginagawa namin ang lahat upang mailagay kayo sa mas mabuting kalagayan (We hear your need for assistance and we are doing everything to put you in better condition)," he added.
