Friendship with VP Sara still intact? Yes, Imee Marcos says

Senator Imee Marcos on Wednesday, November 6 confirmed that she remains a friend of Vice President Sara Duterte even after the latter’s controversial statements against their family, especially her father, the late president Ferdinand Marcos, Sr.

“Oo naman (Of course),” Marcos told reporters during an interview in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan when asked about the status of her friendship with the vice president.

Marcos is in Bulacan to attend the awarding of titles and certificates to the beneficiaries of social housing finance corporation as guest of honor and speaker.

Asked if she held any grudge with the vice president, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s sister merely shrugged it off.

“Hindi naman, di naman. Pinagsasabihan lang. Mana rin naman ako sa kanya…” she said.

That is why, Marcos said launching an independent campaign works well for her.

“Kaya nga sinasabi ko ayokong may alyansa-alyansa. Papanig dun sa isa laban sa isa... ayokong makipag-away ang dami daming trabaho (That’s why I don’t like going into political alliances. Joining one to fight the other… I don’t want to argue, there is so much work to do,” she said.

“Ang importante sa akin nakakatawid ako kahit anong alyansa. Lahat nakakausap ko (What’s important to me is I can cross to all party alliances. I can talk to everyone),” she said.

During a press conference last October, Duterte claimed she warned Imee Marcos that she would dig up the body of her father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani and throw it into the West Philippine Sea (WPS) if attacks against her do not stop.

Duterte issued the remark when asked if she believes the current Marcos administration has forgotten that it was her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who permitted Marcos Sr.’s burial at the national heroes’ cemetery.

It was also during the press conference that Duterte accused Marcos Jr. of not knowing how to rule a country.

Duterte had said it was Sen. Marcos who asked her to run for vice president in tandem with her brother so that they can get strong support from the Visayas.

She said the senator convinced her to run because they could lose to then presidential candidate Leni Robredo if they failed to gain voters from the Visayas region.
