DPWH advances feasibility study for Laguna Lakeshore expressway

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will push for the completion of a feasibility study for the 71.45-kilometer Laguna Lakeshore Road Network (LLRN) Phase 2.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain said the project seeks to improve transport infrastructure between Binangonan town Rizal and Calamba City in Laguna.

Once completed, it will reduce traffic congestion in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

LLRN Phase 2 is designed to include nine interchanges at key locations such as Binangonan, Morong, Tanay, Pililla, and Santa Cruz, enhancing connectivity between Rizal and Laguna provinces.

The expressway will provide an alternative route for north and southbound motorists while boosting economic growth by improving logistics and access to tourist and business hubs in the region.

The current phase builds on the initial 37.5-kilometer LLRN Phase 1, which runs along the western shore of Laguna de Bay, connecting Taguig City to Calamba, Laguna.

Both phases are integral components of the Luzon Economic Corridor, which aims to streamline transportation between Subic Bay, Clark, Manila, and Batangas.

The feasibility study is being financed through the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Infrastructure Preparation and Innovation Facility (IPIF).

DPWH is conducting ongoing consultations with local communities and stakeholders to address environmental and social concerns related to the project.

These consultations are critical to ensuring that the project complies with regulatory standards and public needs.

In collaboration with its consultant, CTI Engineering International Co., Ltd., DPWH has been hosting a series of public consultations to gather feedback that will help refine the expressway’s design.

The input from stakeholders will guide the development of sustainable infrastructure for the region.

Once completed, the Laguna Lakeshore Expressway is expected to enhance mobility, drive economic activities, and contribute to regional development by providing a more efficient and secure travel option for motorists between northern and southern Luzon.
