MORE Power upgrades Molo substation

MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) has rehabilitated its Molo substation to become more reliable and automated in its energization.

The upgrade consisted of a 25/30 megavolt-ampere (MVA) as it replaced old and unreliable equipment like the control system, switchyard, and other important devices.

Rehabilitation works were initiated in July of last year in partnership with EEI Power Corporation. 

According to Roel Z. Castro, MORE Power president, the project stemmed from improper maintenance for the past 23 years which has affected its power supply.

“This upgrade is essential not only to meet the increasing demand for electricity due to population growth and commercial expansion in the area but also to extend the life of the transformer and improve its performance using advanced technology to ensure stable and efficient power distribution,” he said.

MORE Power assured that the Molo substation was able to provide 30/36 MVA worth of temporary power to sustain the electricity supply amid upgrading works.

Additionally, the rehabilitated facility has a reconfigured in-out system to minimize the risk of power outages during high demand, allowing flexible reroute through the SCADA system in case the line transmission encounters a fault.

Armil Logarta, MORE project management and development head stated that the utility’s SCADA implementation is Panay’s first and one of the few in the nation.

He emphasized that power interruptions would be less frequent and that it would boost the service reliability for the residential and commercial users.

Because of the finished development, the mobile substation will be relocated to the Mandurriao Substation to provide temporary electricity as rehabilitation works are set to start in October.

MORE also explained that the substaintial load from the Molo substation would be transferred to the new Arevalo Substation by early 2025.

“This transition is a vital step in our mission to enhance power distribution throughout Iloilo City, ultimately improving the daily lives and business operations of our consumers,” Castro said.
