Ports operator International Container Terminal Service Inc. (ICTSI) officially opened a new terminal in Indonesia that would pave the way for an expanded trade in the country.
On Tuesday, October 8, ICTSI said it officially opened East Java Multipurpose Terminal (EJMT) at the Lamongan Regency after 18 months of construction.
The new terminal boasts of a 300-meter quay line, deep water draft of 13.5 meters, a 500-meter swinging basin, and state-of-the-art handling equipment for bulk, project, and containerized cargo. It boasts of two of the largest post-Panamax mobile harbor cranes in East Java.
“The new terminal will provide another option for our customers in Lamongan, Tuban, and as far as Central Java, serving both their domestic and international trade requirements. Backed by a deep-water berth and the largest mobile harbor cranes in East Java, our customers can now deploy larger vessels, allowing them to load more cargo and reduce their overall costs per unit by calling at EJMT,” said EJMT Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick Chan.
For his part, Eastern Logistics CEO David Lim said that the new international liner connectivity will allow Eastern Logistics’ clients to import materials directly to Lamongan shorebase, thereby reducing both transit time and logistics costs. Eastern Logistics operates Lamongan Shorebase.
“Our heavy lift deck and advanced crane infrastructure enable efficient handling of heavy-lift cargo, supporting energy sector projects across Indonesia, including wind farm installations and offshore platform development,” he said.
ICTSI shares on Tuesday rose by 2.1 percent or P9 to close at P438 apiece. ANGELICA
