The Consulado General Honorario del Perú en Manila partnered with the University of Santo Tomas (UST), through its Office of Public Affairs and the UST College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, for a masterclass with Chef Carlo Huerta on October 1, 2024, held at the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management Kitchen in Albertus Magnus building. Chef Huerta is the executive sous chef of Samba at Shangri-La The Fort, Manila.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to the Kingdom of Thailand and non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to the Philippines and Myanmar, Cecilia Zunilda Galarreta Bazán, and the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy, Alvaro Salcedo Teullet, and UST’s CTHM Regent Fr. Ferdinand Bautista, O.P., graced the event.
During the masterclass, Chef Huerta demonstrated to the 4th-year CTHM students the preparation of a traditional Peruvian dish, Ceviche. This culinary masterpiece, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, embodies the rich heritage and cultural significance of Peruvian cuisine.
The participants gained insights into the practices associated with the preparation and consumption of Ceviche, showcasing the unique flavors and techniques that make Peruvian cuisine celebrated.
The event was a memorable opportunity to explore the culinary traditions of Peru and strengthen the ties between the Philippines and Peru, as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
