Rain showers to persist due to ITCZ, easterlies

Most of the country may experience rain showers and thunderstorms due to the prevalence of two rain-bearing weather systems, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may prevail over Bicol Region, Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Palawan due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), an area where winds from the northern and southern hemispheresconverge.

PAGASA warned of possible flooding or landslides in these areas due to occasional heavy rains.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may persist in Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon due to the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.

PAGASA said the ITCZ may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to the rest of the country.

It also warned of potential flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

As of Sunday, Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda said PAGASA has not monitored any weather disturbances that may affect the country.
