DAVAO CITY – Former President Rodrigo R. Duterte has issued a stark warning to criminals, particularly those involved in illegal drug activities, to leave this city immediately or face stern consequences.

The elder Duterte reiterated his stand against illegal drugs and related activities in a press conference here on Saturday night, October 5.

He warned those involved in illicit activities to stay away from this city, especially if he becomes the mayor again, as he will not allow anything that will destroy his hometown.

“Find another place. The Philippines is vast. There’s Cebu or Manila. Do not come to Davao City because if I become the mayor, you will face serious consequences,” Duterte said.

Duterte announced that he is willing to run again for mayor of this city in the upcoming elections. He said he might run alongside his son, incumbent Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, who earlier said he would run for senator if his father runs for mayor.

The former Chief Executive said he warned criminals before when he was mayor. He added that people did not believe him and claimed extrajudicial killing when all he meant was for Davao to thrive on its own with people living peacefully.

“When I say do not come here, it is because I do not want drugs or kidnapping or any other illegal activities on my turf. Let Davao City bloom on its own. The people here have no problems. I grew up in this city, so do not f**k with me,” he said.

Duterte said he would even contact human rights organizations and ask them to remove those involved in dishonesty from this city, emphasizing that he does not want children to face the consequences and suffer from these people, nor his city to be ruined by drugs.

“Here in Davao, we work so that our children can study with the hope that when we grow old and eventually pass away, the next generation of Davaoeños will take over. I will never allow Davao City to be taken care of by irresponsible people. That will never happen,” he said.

Duterte said most people here know him well. He added that he is not strict and understands that everyone makes mistakes. However, if people get involved in robbery, kidnapping, rape, and illegal drugs here, that is a different story already, as he does not tolerate such behaviors.
