ZAMBOANGA CITY – More than 50 ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps witnessed the much-awaited Regatta de Zamboanga on Sunday, October 6, with Mayor John Dalipe, House Majority Leader Rep. Mannix Dalipe, and residents.

The one-of-a-kind vinta race featured 249 participants in boats with colorful sails and distinctively Mindanaoan designs who maneuver their vintas to emerge as the grand winner of the regatta.
The first prize went to a boatman from Barangay Mariki here who won P30,000, a 16-horsepower boat engine, and gift certificates.
Boatmen from Barangay Sinunuc and Santa Cruz Island won P25,000 and P20,000, respectively, as second and third prize winners.
Barangays Sinunuc and Pangapuyan clinched fourth and fifth places, winning P15,000 and P10,000.
This was the first time that Zamboanga City hosted a big group of diplomats from all over the world.
