The former Chief Executive, in a press conference, asked the media if public sentiment favored his return as mayor of Davao.

Mediamen replied in the affirmative and Duterte then said that he intends to return as mayor.

Duterte was mayor for more than two decades before becoming president from 2016 to 2022.

He said he might run alongside son, Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte.

“He (Mayor Duterte) should be the vice mayor,” Duterte said.

The former Chief Executive said a senatorial candidacy is out of the question as he is too old and might only collapse during a national campaign.

Former President Duterte’s daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, had earlier said that his father, along with her brothers, Mayor Duterte and Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte,
would be running for senator.

Mayor Duterte, however, claimed that Vice President Duterte was joking.

But Mayor Duterte recently said he might run for senator if his father run for mayor.

Among the Dutertes, only the former President’s grandson, Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, son of Rep. Duterte, is running for an elective position so far.
